I have suffered from anxiety my whole life. The word "suffer" doesn't seem strong enough of a word to describe the intensity of feeling out of control. The fear of not knowing what's happening to you, fear of what is going to happen, just so much fear. Anyone with anxiety can understand how difficult it can be to live with. Meditation and learning how to breathe has been extremely helpful for me. In this piece, the word "breathe" is written in 80 different languages. Just focus on your breath, even if it helps just a little bit, it's better than what you were feeling before.

INSOMNIA, A DAY ZOMBIE

Insomnia. Not a mental disorder, but rather of symptom of one.
Sleep. So needed for human function. There were times where I literally did not sleep for weeks, it was actually painful. This piece represents the mind, how it is so full of thoughts, tasks, ideas...worries. It can be so overwhelming that some days, when you are supposed to be awake, you don't feel real. Like you are in a dream, about to lose your mind. You feel off balance, ready to fall forever. The desire to feel rested is so intense you find yourself begging, on your knees in tears pleading for sleep. But it never comes. Until it does. And finally, you are alive. And it is wonderful.
